Greece and Rome. Read Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad excerpts (Readings 4.1 and 4.2/pages 134-139). What do Homer’s writings tell us about the relationship between Greek gods and the Greek people? Use examples from the text excerpts to defend your position. (Section 4.2 of the text “Homeric Epics” will also be helpful.) How does this relationship change in Rome? In what ways is the Aeneid influenced by the Homers writings? (Reading 6.8) In what ways does Virgil portray the relationship between gods and Romans similarly to Homer and how does he differ? Give specific examples from the text.
